Hot Leggs is the name used by Hildegard Kooy to present herself with a Tina Turner act. Born on the 10th of May 1963 in Paramaribo (Surinam), she moved to the Netherlands when she was 11 years old. In the seventies she started to dance in a African dance group and moved from there to disco-dancing. To develop her stage-experience, she also played some roles in theatre plays. With the dance groups and the theatre plays she made several tours through the Netherlands until the moment that she was put on stage as a singer during a talent contest. She won the first prize and after this two more talent contests followed resulting in a second and again a first prize. From that moment on music was the only art she concentrated on, inspired by Tina Turner. Hildegards live-experience (almost identical to that of her role model and also something that she, just like Tina, avoids to discuss), her voice and radiation on stage show big similarities to Tina Turner. After being active as a singer in different bands, in the 1980’s she started her first 5 piece band, named Hot Leggs. The Tina Turner Tribute started some time later when people asked her to perform several Tina Turner songs in a single set. This resulted in today’s 120 minutes swirling act with live band. According to Hildegard she is not a copy of Tina Turner, she will never imitate the exact movements of Tina. She is and always will be her self and that is noticeable in her shows. Hot Leggs grew to a 9 piece band and in 2001 Hildegard released “After Ten…”, a CD with covers from Tina Turner and some other artists. To promote her CD she went on tour with the band to Paramaribo and performed during 3 weeks on several places in Surinam. The CD reached in and after that period a number 1 position in the polls in Paramaribo during several weeks. Since 2002 Hildegard is a most welcome artist on the Sziget Festival in Hungary. On 2 days she performs with her live band, the second day always performing with the complete Tina Turner Tribute show, lasting over 2 hours. With performances in The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany, France and Surinam she is a much asked artist, always committed to give an unforgettable show for her audience. Hildegard had to fight hard to get a place in the showbiz and is still doing so; her main goal is to present a show that’s as professional as possible. Competition is fierce, but this keeps her sharp, which is noticeable in the band. Due to the fact that competition is increasingly younger and, after more than 34 years in showbiz, the average age of Hildegards fans is progressively decreasing, it takes more and more efforts to keep her fans satisfied. Except performing with the Tina Turner Tribute and the Hot Leggs Cover band, Hildegard started her own company in 2001: Your Sound Booking Agency. Here she commit her self to put the right artists on events and festivals. Because she is always busy, lately she opened her own rehearsal studio where she can rehearse with her own band, but which facility is also open for other artists. Her wish: A tour with the Tina Turner Tribute show in theatres throughout the Netherlands.
